Evaluates, analyzes, diagnoses and troubleshoots technical equipment problems via telephone or at customer site.
Repairs and updates equipment and system level problems at customer facility.
Evaluates equipment to determine type and extent of problem.
Prepares field service reports on customer support activity.
Assists in the preparation of quotes for customers based on labor, travel expenses incurred and parts needed. Assist in preparing quotes based on reason for equipment failure, time to prepare etc.
Resolve complicated service problems or tasks through instructions.
Generate the feedback report for Failure Analysis (FA) and Dead On Arrival (DOA) situations.
Assists other Customer Support Engineers as appropriate.
Properly care for all Carl Zeiss tools and assets as may be made available during the execution of assigned responsibilities.
Acts on direction provided by supervisor, training facilitator and or other qualified source.
Complete service reporting for all service functions performed and on regular intervals, within 5 – 7 business days of completing of the service.
Complete and submit expense reports on a monthly basis.
Bachelor level degree or equivalent or related military electronics experience and one year of engineering or other hard science discipline. Minimum 3 to 5 years of Field Service Engineer Experience.
Ability to understand and troubleshoot problems in software and electronics, optics and electron optics, high voltage, high vacuum, mechanical, and electro mechanical systems
Ability to develop and demonstrates technical proficiency in all aspects of assigned equipment set.
Has communication skills to discuss service matters with customers, understands their requests and can report the requests appropriately to his/her manager while promoting company expectations and timelines.
Can appropriately process routine work such as Field Service Report and Parts Return by the due date.
Knowledge of optics, mechanics and PC technologies.
Attend special Customer Relation Skills course as needed.
Frequent overnight travel, domestic and international (average 50%) by company car or commercial transportation.
Valid Driver license required.
Capable to lift 60 lbs. safely.
Able to obtain corporate credit card.
Participation of six months to one-year of formal training as a Customer Support Engineer and proficiently maintains all duties and associated responsibilities.
